Professor Aali Sheen was born and educated in London. He qualified in medicine from the University of Dundee in 1993. Mr Sheen became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1998 (FRCS), obtaining a Doctorate in 2003 from the University of Manchester (M.D.) followed by his final specialist fellowship from the Intercollegiate board in General Surgery in 2005 (FRCS Gen Surg). Mr Sheen undertook training in General Surgery in London, Oxford, Leeds and Manchester.

Professor Sheen was appointed a Consultant General Surgeon in December 2005 at Manchester Royal Infirmary and has to date, undertaken over 500 hernia operations mainly for groin pathology as well as complex abdominal wall hernias. Mr Sheen also has a specialised interest in chronic pain of the groin especially after previous hernia surgery. He is Clinical Director for General Surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary and a senior surgeon at the Manchester Hernia Clinic.

Professor Sheen is a laparoscopic surgeon and has published and lectures on the Sportsman’s groin for which he has both a national and international profile.
